Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

I chose these 2 verses to re-memorize. I've had them memorized in past years, but have "lost" my ability to say them without stumbling! :) They are 2 great verses in modeling a life of Christ. Great starting ground on this journey of memorizing 24 new passages of scripture this year. I'm excited!

2 Corinthians 4:7-18
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus's sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. It is written: " I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you and in his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause Thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Psalm 119: 9-1 (ESV)
"How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I will seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I may not sin against you. Blessed are you, oh Lord; teach me your statutes!"

I have chosen these verses to be a daily reminder to stay focused on the Lord, put His word in my heart. There are some idols I so want to overcome, and focusing on God's word is the best plan of attack I know of.

1 John 2: 1-5 j KJV

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

I memorized the first chapter last summer... need to refresh that in my mind. Thought it was time I start memorizing Chapter 2. I especially like verse 5 --it is so important to "KEEP HIS WORD".

Colossians 1: 9-12 (NASB)
For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Psalm 139: 1-24
O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me.
Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up;
Thou dost understand my thought from afar.

This psalm has always been my favorite chapter in the Bible. I have tried to memorize it in the past and would love to commit it to memory!

Galatians 5:16-18. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

I Thessalonians 4
I'm just beginning to memorize this chapter so am not sure which verses are my favorite - usually there are two or three verses in each chapter that become my favorite - I will comment on Chapter 4 as the month goes along.

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬

I thought I posted this last week but I don't see it anywhere so j must not have. This is the verse that Janie asked us to memorize during the ladies bible study based on the movie The War Room. I memorized it then and it stuck with me so I thought I'd start with it.
